Lakes and trail runs

This week Katie and I threw off our winter furs (that's the expression they use here when you hit the lake for the first time after it's thawed) in Lake Köhniönjärvi.  We had just finished a trail run along Lake Tuomiojärvi.  It felt great to soak the tired legs in COLD water.  :)

We took the picture upside down...so here it is in its original form.  :)

Kirsti tended to the fire and the sausages and we all watched as a thunderstorm rolled in.

The annual fish market came to town this weekend down at the harbor.  Aila was eager to find a vendor from Kuopio (a 2 hour drive from Jyvaskyla) where she is from.

 And...success!  'Kuopiosta' means 'from Kuopio'.

The weather was incredible!  It's been in the 80s this week (a bit warm when there's no central air conditioning in the houses!).

To give you some perspective on where the market was in relation to the harbor.

Katie turns 11 this week.  They celebrated her birthday in Primary (children's Sunday School at church).  Love this girl!

I hit the hiking trail close to our apartment that takes you through a forest that could be straight out of a fairytale.  The ground was dusted in white blossoms as they've been falling from the trees and bushes all week.  I LOVE that it rains blossoms in the spring and leaves in the fall!!

My joints have held out (surprisingly) well so I'm hopeful that I'll be able to keep up the running.  This trail is my second favorite place in the world--and being able to pair my first love (running) with my second favorite place in the world (this hiking trail) is pretty sweet.  My favorite place in the world is a trail that runs along the Potomac river (Belle Haven Park/Dyke Marsh in Alexandria).
