First week at school

My first week of school!  I spend my days working on revising my dissertation proposal to submit to various foundations for funding.  And after reviewing the pictures from this last week, I spend the rest of my day eating.  Eating REALLY good food.  :)
Monday in my new office.  I share it with Katja and Reetta Karjalainen.  My officemates are wonderful!
I recently discovered that my hair is happiest when it's pulled up in a bun.  Lucky for me, it seems that everyone with long here also pulls their hair up.  And scarves.  Oh how I love scarves.  You'll also notice my indestructible green water bottle.  I don't leave home without it.

On Tues. we had new international student orientation.  Afterwards, the weather was so delightful that I stopped by the lake to eat my lunch.  This was the view from the bench.  I also learned this week to not smile while riding a bike, especially when riding fast down steep hills.  Why?  Because the bugs much prefer to hit soft skin when they pelt you as you bike along.  My protein intake this week was MUCH higher than I had planned for.

I love the cafeteria here!  €4.80 for a hot lunch.  A steal!  This may not look so tasty, but if I could eat it for every meal everyday, I would be one happy camper.  Any guesses as to what it is?  The menu said barley porridge with blueberry soup (read: blueberry sauce).  Apparently this is the Finnish breakfast staple.  They make blueberry soup from the blueberries they collect in the forest.

Oh yes.  Tortillas in Finland.  They were really tasty.  So, I was able to eat my traditional egg tacos.  I had these nearly every night for dinner when I was staying with Miss Kate Louise Leinweber in Chicago this summer.

My first view of the moon in Jyväsklä.  I was riding home from school.
